Substitute Behavior Management team members are utilized by Desert Choice Schools, on an as-needed basis for classroom coverage.  The primary role of the Substitute Behavior Management team member is to continue student learning along the continuum, established by the absent full-time staff. 

Responsibilities

  • Receive in-depth training session on tools needed to be successful in the classroom
  • Ongoing in-service professional development opportunities
  • A “foot in the door” for future opportunities with Desert Choice Schools
  • The opportunity to network with DCS directors, teachers and behavior management professionals
  • Make a difference in the lives of special needs students and their families

The responsibilities of the Substitute in the classroom may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Academic and social skill instruction
  • Assisting in Planning lessons
  • Managing the classroom
  • Performing administrative tasks
  • Promoting positive student behavior
  • Ensuring the safety and security of the students

Substitutes providing day-to-day service, are paid on an hourly basis for the actual hours worked; they do not receive benefits other than 401(k).

Qualifications

The minimum eligibility requirements to apply for a Substitute position are the following:

 

Substitute Teacher

·       Experience working in a classroom setting with special needs students

·       A Bachelor's Degree and a valid substitute teaching certificate through the AZ Department of Education  

·       Demonstrated career goals in the field of special education

·       Proficiency in oral and written communication

·       In possession of an active, valid AZ Fingerprint Clearance Card

·       Proficiency with Microsoft Office

 

Substitute Behavior Technician

·       Experience working in a classroom setting with special needs students

·       A Bachelor's Degree or working towards a degree in the field of education or special education.  

·       Demonstrated career goals in the field of special education

·       Proficiency in oral and written communication

·       In possession of an active, valid AZ Fingerprint Clearance Card

·       Proficiency with Microsoft Office
